The Thinking Evidence Lab™ Complete 5-Lab ELA Critical Thinking System | Grades 6–12

$100.00$50.00

What happens when students stop being asked only for answers—and start being asked to prove, explain, teach, and transfer their thinking?

The Thinking Evidence Lab™ Complete 5-Lab System is a no-tech, evidence-based ELA instructional system designed to make student thinking visible.

Across five progressively challenging labs, students learn to:

Evaluate → Diagnose → Defend → Teach → Transfer

The system is built around one core idea:

Students should not only know an answer. They should be able to explain why it is trustworthy, defend their reasoning, teach the skill to someone else, and use the skill in a new context.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

LAB 1 — The Almost-Right Answer Lab™

Evaluate competing answers.

Students identify the strongest answer, analyze a tempting but incomplete response, examine evidence, repair weak reasoning, and explain why one answer deserves more trust.

LAB 2 — The Thinking Error Lab™

Diagnose flawed reasoning.

Students locate exactly where reasoning breaks down, identify the type of error, repair the reasoning, defend the repair, and teach another student how to avoid the mistake.

LAB 3 — The Defend Your Thinking Lab™

Build and defend a claim.

Students rank evidence, explain how evidence connects to a claim, consider a counterclaim, and construct a defensible evidence-based response.

LAB 4 — You Are the Teacher Lab™

Demonstrate understanding by teaching.

Students define a skill, show the process, identify common mistakes, create a self-check, teach the skill to another learner, and reflect on their understanding.

LAB 5 — The Transfer Challenge Lab™

Apply the skill somewhere new.

Students identify the skill, recall the strategy, enter a new context, adapt the strategy, apply it independently, explain the transfer, and teach another learner when the strategy applies.

THE THINKING EVIDENCE CYCLE™

Predict → Analyze → Challenge → Defend → Teach → Transfer → Reflect

The five labs work together to move students from recognizing information to demonstrating transferable understanding.

WHAT MAKES THIS SYSTEM DIFFERENT?

This is not five unrelated worksheets.

Each lab addresses a different stage of intellectual development:

1. EVALUATE

Can I recognize strong thinking?

2. DIAGNOSE

Can I explain why weak thinking fails?

3. DEFEND

Can I build reasoning that survives challenge?

4. TEACH

Can I explain the skill well enough for someone else to learn it?

5. TRANSFER

Can I recognize and use the skill when the context changes?

Together, the labs create a repeatable classroom routine for making thinking visible.

BUILT FOR EVERY LEARNER

Every lab includes teacher-facing support for:

SPED / 504

Scaffolds, chunked directions, sentence frames, flexible response options, and access supports.

ELL / MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS

Vocabulary support, language frames, oral rehearsal, modeled academic language, and discussion supports.

GIFTED & TALENTED

Greater complexity, multiple reasoning pathways, less obvious examples, independent extensions, and deeper transfer challenges.

COMMON CORE ALIGNED

Each lab includes grade-specific Common Core ELA alignment in the teacher guide, with the Grade 7 model aligned to appropriate Reading Informational Text, Writing, and Speaking & Listening standards.

The system is designed for adaptation across:

Grades 6–8 — Middle School

Grades 9–12 — High School

NO STUDENT TECHNOLOGY REQUIRED

Students complete the labs through:

reading + writing + discussion + reasoning + reflection

Teacher-facing AI tools help educators quickly customize each experience around the texts, skills, topics, and learner needs they are already teaching.

Students do not need AI to complete the activities.

AI FOR THE TEACHER. THINKING FOR THE STUDENT.
